CIVIL WAR?

It seems as though the bad news in Iraq gets worse by the second:

Tit-for-tat killings which has now sparked all the symptoms of a full blown civil war.

Did our soldiers come over here just so they can see this happen?

Probably not. But this is what's happening now.

And what's ironic about this whole affair is that the same defunct CIA--which was used as a convenient scapegoat for Bush's illegal war--once predicted that if things didn't change with the ongoing sectarian violence in February 2005, we could very well see a civil war explode in Iraq.

Now, it may already have begun. Both sides had staked out grounds in which to kill each other over with since we invaded--with the US showing heavy favoritism for the Shiites. However, the Sunnis aren't without muscle or teeth either.

And both sides have shown they can be as brutal and sadistic as Saddam ever was in his heyday.

Maybe Bush should be told that we should leave before our serving men and women get caught in the crossfire, eh?

Then again...I doubt our President even cares. We have to see this bungled affair to the bitter end, right? No matter what befalls our troops?

NO RIGHTS FOR SOME MEANS MORE GOVERNMENT HYPOCRACY

I can remember a time when--after--9-11 happened, that Bush swearing up and down the political spectrum that he would be bringing the 9-11 masterminds to justice.

Oddly enough, that obsession for "justice" has swiftly turned into a nightmare for all Americans.

Instead of upholding the Constitution and the law of the land, Bush has decided that what he says goes, and anyone who disagrees with him to be branded "unpatriotic".

So now, we have a rogue President that says: "Detainees have no rights!"

Oh, really?

Strangely enough, Moussaoui got a trial. What about the guy whom threatened to blow up the Space Needle and LAX? He got a trial too!

Weren't both of them terrorists?

So what makes these guys different than the ones whom are being held without rights in Guantanamo Bay? Or are there different definitions of 'terrorist' that we don't yet know about?

For a nation that was built on civil and human rights, shouldn't we uphold the same principles which allowed us to try and convict these other aforementioned terrorists in a court of law?

Sadly, Bush doesn't think so.

NOTE TO DEMOCRATS: PLEASE GOVERN WITH HUMBLE RESPONSIBILITY

Not a day has gone by since Congress went wholly Democrat, and already Bush supporters are feeling the sting of loss.

But instead of accepting their party's defeat and moving on, they've apparently dug themselves in and started attacking the Democrats as being 'weak-kneed pacifists who has finished America by leaving her open to terrorist attacks'. (According to one upset Republican supporter I ran across on the 'net.)

Not surprising, Nancy Pelosi is also under attack for her position as the new Speaker of the House; claiming that her '100 Hour Plan' is too much liberal in retrospect and all it does is favor socialist programs and welfare.

I find this behavior to be a little extreme and maybe that's all it is: Extreme right-wing behavior from those who were too drunk from power, greed, and corruption to see straight.

But their obtuse behavior also gives us a critical piece of sage advice, as not what to do now that we (the people--not just Democrats) are in control of Congress:

Just because we now have the power to make laws and change things for the better, does not mean we should emulate what the Republicans have done for the last 12 years--once everything is said and done.

So govern responsibly; ye old Democrats--lest you wish to be put to pasture like yonder GOP.

ELECTIONS PROVE BUSH IS NO LONGER ABLE TO HIDE BEHIND PARTYLINE

With the GOP getting 'thumped'--as Bush calls it--(I prefer 'spanked' myself) and pushed out of the way, Bush now finds himself not with a divided Congress, but one driven by the Democrats to set the ship of state on a new course; one which promises to weed out the last bits of corruption and hold the President accountable for his actions as Commander-in-Chief.

And this time, Bush can't go on record as saying that he's doing things to protect the American people for themselves. This time, he has to acknowledge the fact that he no longer has a 'mandate' to hide behind--let alone the party rhetoric which has deeply divided this nation so far.

As a people, we must hold our representatives accountable, but for Bush, we must get to the bottom of why Bush brought us to war, why he held all those secret meetings behind closed doors, and why he has brought it upon himself to trample over the Constitution like it was nothing more than a 'damned piece of paper'. (His words.)

Naturally, Bush will try and concoct some excuse that the Democrats are endangering the nation with their attempts to set the record straight. But little does he know, what has endangered us all isn't the new Congress's ambitions to give us a clean slate, but his own fractured policy directives which had placed us on a very slippery slope.

BUSH NOW HAS TO FACE THE CONSEQUENCES OF HIS ACTIONS

With the Democrats now in full control of Congress, old ghosts from the last six years will most likely resurface for Bush and his administration--as the Democrats aim to conduct hearings into the President's domestic, foreign, and energy policies.

But even though Bush promises to cooperate with the new Congress, will he if Congress does discover anything which will most likely hold Bush accountable for his past actions as Commander-in-Chief?

Or will he resort to executive priviledge and stonewall the party's attempts to get at the truth?

WHY SHOULD TORTURE BE CONSIDERED A 'SECRET'?

I'm just wondering something:

How can a democratic country like ours openly legislate the use of torture as a 'humane' method of interrogation one day, and then try to keep what we are doing to these prisoners from leaking out into the public--as a state secret--the next?
